I am a Marketing Consulting in the Great Toronto Area with over 25 years experience in building and implementing marketing plans for small business.

Are you running a Small Business?  Landscaping, Home Services, Cleaning Supplies? Where do you start when deciding what to do with your website?  Are you already online and want to update your website or are you going online for the first time?

If a website is new for you, get a one page site up asap.  Even if you plan to change it 100% later, get the site up now so you can give the search engines time to find it.  It will take 6 months before your site gets very much search engine attention, so just put up a single page now and start that clock ticking. Include how to contact you and a description of what you do.

Pick a web site name that tells people what you do.  For example one of my clients chose www.asbestosmouldremoval.ca.  Another chose https://www.stockedcellars.ca/ What do you think they do?

Don’t worry about adding a geographical reference to the the website name such as a city, province or country.  Search engines don’t need that help anymore.

Search engines will know by your Contact information where you are located and they will know from your About information what product or service you provide.  They will then know how far and wide your company reaches (based upon their experience) and serve your web site to the right users in your geographic target market.

You should still add your work/service area to the About page so, that visitors to your site know where you will deliver/work but, you don’t need geographical references in the web site address for the benefit of better indexing by search engines.

Its all about targeting the customer to act upon their intent by reaching those people based upon their Searches, Keywords, Content they are accessing, Categories and Physical location.

You can choose to structure an SEM campaign on your own, but you can also turn to a professional who will save you a ton of time and utilize their experience to optimize your content and ads for you. If you’d like some assistance in coming up with the best plan for your business, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
